Claire Gaveriaux-Ruff is Professor at University of Strasbourg. She performed her pre- and post-doctoral studies at Sandoz Basel, Strasbourg University and Yale University. Together with Prof. Brigitte L. Kieffer, Claire Gaveriaux-Ruff has pioneered molecular research on opioid receptors. The team, in CERBM-IGBMC, has a leading position in opioid research, with a focus on the opioid system in brain physiology, neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Within GLORIA, Claire Gaveriaux-Ruff investigates the role of opioid receptors in the control of chronic pain by using genetics and pharmacological approaches. In particular, she will study the roles of opioid receptors in glial cells, by specifically inactivating opioid receptor genes in astrocytes and microglia. She will analyze the opioid receptor mutants for glial cell activation, pain sensitivity to neuropathy and inflammation as well as for the mood consequences of chronic pain.
