Mati Karelson is Professor of Molecular Technology at the University of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia). He also holds adjunct professorship at the University of Florida (USA). His main scientific interests are related to the quantum theory of molecules in condensed media, the structure-property relationships, artificial intelligence in chemistry and large-scale molecular design. He has published more than 200 publications with over 6000 citations, including the monographs and book chapters. During the past 5 years he has published 32 papers, including in top journals Chemical Reviews, Journal of American Chemical Society, Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling, and others. The main results include the novel AI models for the prediction of efficient cell-penetrating peptides and development of new class of HCV inhibitors.
In addition to scientific publications, Prof. Karelson is a co-inventor in 3 patents/patent families and in another 3 patent and/or patent application families. Prof. Karelson is external consultant for Chemedest, Ltd.
In GLORIA, Prof Karelson focuses on identification of new active compounds by virtual screens of commercial or public compound libraries and computational modeling to study SARs and binding specificity.
