Prof. Jari Yli-Kauhaluoma, Head of the Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry since 2004 and holds a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland since 1997. He carried out his postgraduate research in chemistry at the Scripps Research Institute (The Janda Group, 1992–95) and a postdoctoral study at the MIT (The Danheiser Group, 1997–98) in the USA. After returning Finland he developed heterocyclic synthesis methodology at the VTT (1999–2000). His current research topics at the University of Helsinki span protein kinases, medicinal chemistry of opioids, drug metabolism, and antibiotics against intracellular pathogens. The major funding sources of his group are the Academy of Finland, EU, IMI, Tekes, WADA, Forestcluster, Tres Cantos Open Lab Foundation, and the University of Helsinki. He has authored or co-authored 129 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 21 patents/patent applications in medicinal and organic chemistry.
